2009 Campus Idol: Central Region

The 6th Annual COCA Central Campus Idol took place on Friday, March 27, 2009 with nine campuses from across the region sending their Idol hopeful to St. Clair College in Windsor to compete for the coveted grand Prize of $1000!

After two rounds of each of the 2009 Idols singing and leaving it all on the stage, the judges tallied up the scores to set the Top Five. With the scores being so close between the Idols the judges John Gray, Garry and Julie Morris from WHATIF Productions Talent Buyers for the LaSalle Strawberry Festival, opted to bring six through to the next round. Grier Munroe (York), Rebecca Stephens (Georgian), Nicole Scott (Fanshawe), Matt Dell (Niagara), Yonathan Watts (McMaster), and Saphire Demitro (St. Clair) all moved on to show the judges their skills and hopefully move on to the Top Two finals.

After six more performances the judges had all they needed to set the Top Two for the finals and it would be Nicole Scott and Saphire Demitro. This set up a stellar finals that not only had the Idol Hopefuls on pins and needles, but the judges too.

When it was all added up, Nicole Scott was announced the 2009 COCA Campus Idol and winner of the $1000 Grand Prize. The runner up Saphire Demitro received a rafting trip for two courtesy of Breakaway Tours and a paid slot on LaSalle Strawberry Festival singing the national anthem at the opening ceremonies.

On behalf of the SRC, we would like to thank COCA, Breakaway Tours, LaSalle Strawberry Festival, all Campuses and Idol hopefuls for their involvement in this year’s COCA Central Campus Idol.
