Campus Music Explosion 2009 - Central Region
On Thursday, March 26th, 12 bands from across Ontario made the trek to The Arnie at Mohawk College.
The Mohawk Students’ Association staff had worked tirelessly to prepare The Arnie and rounded up some of the finest musical judges Hamilton has to offer. From 93.3 CFMU (McMaster Campus Radio), Program Director Jamie Tenant made the nine minute ride up the “mountain.” From C101.5FM (Mohawk Students’ Association Radio), Program Director Jamie Smith walked a whole 74 steps to mark the scores. Last but not least, was Dan Brooks, President of Key Music Group (managing such bands as The Marble Index, The Pixies and The Lowest of the Low).
This year we added a slight incentive. Not only were the bands competing for gigs, but we also purchased the COCA Cup. This trophy will be passed from winning school to winning school at Regional’s and will be a shrine to all who have emerged victorious.
After almost five hours of 20 minute sets, 12 crazy talented bands and over 40 mic line checks, Mohawk’s own “Life in Sound” took the crown! As winners of the event, Life in Sound will be booked at each of the competing 12 campuses during the 2009-2010 school year.
Congratulations to all bands and thank you for making this event such a success. In the future, if the Mohawk Students’ Association hosts the event, we will ensure that we don’t book it on the same night as our Residence’s Semi Formal. The place looked like a wedding by 11 pm.
Again, thanks to all who participated and we hope to see you next year.
